After many months of discussed proposals, a planned development project proposed for the Hilton Oak Brook Hills Resort property was approved by the Village Board. “I’m proud that our Village Board listened to all sides of the conversation regarding this proposal,” said Mayor of Westmont Ron Gunter. “Ultimately, the board feels that this project will be good for Westmont.”
The project, known as World Class Westmont, will feature 250 luxury, one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as a world-class swim complex: The Natatorium at Westmont. The project is expected to bring visitors from across the state and country to the Village of Westmont.
The developers have projected that over the next 20 years, this project may generate hundreds of millions of dollars in total economic impact to the Village of Westmont in the form of increased retail sales, real estate taxes, hotel-motel taxes, utilities, and through the creation of new jobs. The project is being entirely financed through private investment and no taxpayer dollars will be used as a project incentive or investment.
"We are very grateful for the support of the community and all their input that made this a better project,” said Peter Dumon, President of The Harp Group. “We look forward to a great partnership with Westmont for many years to come."
“I feel that we just witnessed a great example of how local government can work effectively,” said Community Development Director Jill Ziegler. “There was over a year of conversation and evolution regarding this project. We had several hearings at the Planning & Zoning Commission level and there was ample opportunity for citizens to offer their feedback and suggestions. The overall plan went through several revisions to incorporate the ideas of the community, and ultimately, the final proposal was approved. We appreciate everyone’s perspective and encourage constructive dialogue at all times.”
The Natatorium has been designed to be one of the fastest competition pools in the country for both 50-meter (Olympic pool) and 25-yard course events. In addition, major water polo, diving and masters swimming events will take place. The complex is expected to bring visitors and competitors from all over the world. It will be an environment for Olympic trial qualifiers and NCAA competitors who will be drawn to the complex.
"We are delighted by the opportunity to bring the Natatorium to the village of Westmont,” said MaryAnn Kaufman of FMC Aquatic Opportunities. “We look forward to working with the Westmont Park District along with with the schools in the community, and with the wonderful people here who showed such heartwarming support for our idea."
It is expected that the World Class Westmont development will generate significant tax dollars for the community including the Westmont Park District, Forest Preserve District, the Village of Westmont, the Westmont Library, and local school district. It is estimated that more than $500,000 of new, annual revenue will directly benefit Westmont Community Unit School District 201.
