Village of Westmont
Date Issued: March 8, 2017
The Village of Westmont Public Works Department will be assisting Community Unit School District 201 with the testing of their water supply for lead beginning March 25, 2017. Testing will be performed at multiple sites in each school in the district.
The testing protocol will take about six hours at each school. Specific areas being tested include water fountains and kitchens. The water samples are then sent to a lab to be tested. The samples will be taken on Saturdays as not to interfere with the school day.
Each school is responsible for the cost of the lab testing, but the Village of Westmont will be collecting the samples free of charge. “This is a great way for the Village and our area schools to continue working together for the benefit of the whole community,” said Mike Ramsey, Director of Public Works. “It helps keep costs down for the district while we comply with new legislation designed to keep our children safe.”
If lead is detected in any of the samples, the school must remedy the site in question and then have that specific area resampled. If a school is found to be in violation, all parents at that school will be notified. The Village of Westmont has extended the same offer to the Maercker School District as well.
