Village of Westmont 100th Anniversary - November 10, 2021
Westmont was incorporated as a municipality with the State of Illinois on November 10, 1921. In 2021, the Village of Westmont coordinated a year-long celebration of its 100th Anniversary. Even though the celebration began while COVID restrictions were still in place, the Village was able to host a number of fun activities and events intended to engage the entire community. Following is a listing of some of the events that occurred during the 100th Anniversary Celebration.
100th Anniversary Celebration Nov. 10, 2021
On Nov. 10, 2021, the Village of Westmont hosted a community event in front of Village Hall at 31 W. Quincy Street and invited everyone to attend. The evening included various award presentations, the burying of the 2121 Time Capsule, vintage-era costume contest, and more. Photos from the event are posted in the Village Photo Gallery.
100TH ANNIVERSARY CERAMIC PLATES
Village Communications Specialist Jenny Babyar designed the 100th Anniversary Plate for the event. Citizens were able to order a plate online. The program became a fundraiser for the Westmont Historical Society.
100TH ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE EVENTS
The Village of Westmont hosted three open houses for various village departments throughout the year including the first annual open house of the new Public Works facility, which had been dedicated on the Village's 99th Anniversary on Nov. 10, 2020.
100th ANNIVERSARY LICENSE PLATE PROGRAM
The Westmont Communications Division worked with graphic artist Luke Lin to create the 100th Anniversary logo, which was used throughout the year for the 100th Anniversary Celebration, including as part of the design of the 100th Anniversary Commemorative License Plate Program.
HISTORICAL STRUCTURE PLAQUE PROGRAM
The Westmont Historical Society completed a Westmont Historical Structure Plaque Program and debuted its first marker at the Framemakers business located at 10 N. Cass Avenue.
ADDINGTON PLAZA DEDICATION
The downtown train station was dedicated in the memory of longtime Westmont resident and former Village Mayor and Trustee Jim Addington. The project was completed and open to the public in the spring of 2022.
BEST PET ANNIVERSARY MASCOT CONTEST
The village hosted a best pet contest that resulted in dozens of entries. Voting was conducted online and 1000's of votes were cast in the contest. While all of the pets were incredible, GARRETT was chosen as the official mascot for the 100th Anniversary Celebration. Over the course of the year, Garrett attended numerous events throughout the year including Westmont Cruisin' Nights, Taste of Westmont, special visits to area schools as well as the Police and Fire Departments, the Holly Days Parade, and the actual anniversary celebration on Nov. 10 at Village Hall. A special webpage was created providing details from the contest and entries.
