[ARCHIVED] New Events Planned For Wicked West Fest 2019

“Since we’ve rebranded our October events as ‘Wicked West Fest’, our fall activities have been more popular than ever,” said Larry McIntyre, Westmont Communications Director.  “This year, there will be some new events added to the Wicked West Fest line-up including an Oktoberfest and 5K race.  We invite the entire community to attend.”  Mark your calendars for these fun filled family events.  Following is a complete list of this year’s Wicked West Fest schedule:

OKTOBERFEST
October 4 & 5 
In front Westmont Village Hall - 31 W. Quincy

The Westmont Lions Foundation is hosting an Oktoberfest fundraiser and 5K Running for the Cause event Friday and Saturday, October 4 to 5, 2019.  In addition to the 5K CARA certified and USATF sanctioned race on Oct. 5,  the Oktoberfest fundraiser will include craft beer, Oktoberfest style food, live music, a car show, an artists and craft show, and a health fair. THE LAST STRAW

Gregg House Museum - 115 S. Linden

Come to the Gregg House Museum for a variety of fun family activities: Make a scarecrow (nominal fee), decorate pumpkins, meet a beekeeper, see an awesome reptile and frog program, learn about bunnies, chickens and cows, enjoy music fun with Tim Wilsey, visit the petting zoo, pan for gold, and more.  For more info, contact the Westmont Park District at WestmontParks.org or 630-963-5252.

WESTMONT SCARECROW DECORATING CONTEST
Voting - October 7th-31st
Downtown Westmont on Cass between Naperville/Chicago Avenue

Families, businesses, schools and community organizations are invited to participate in this year’s Westmont Scarecrow Decorating Contest!  You can create your own scarecrow, or scarecrow kits can be purchased for $10 from the Westmont Historical Society, 55 E. Richmond Ave., from September 16 through October 1. Scarecrows need to be dropped off to the Westmont Chamber of Commerce, One South Cass Avenue, Suite 101, by October 3, 2019 to be included in the contest.  Scarecrows will be on display in downtown Westmont and the entire community is asked to vote for their favorite scarecrow online at westmontchamber.com.  Voting ends at midnight on Halloween, October 31.  For more info, contact the Westmont Chamber at wcctb@westmontchamber.com or 630-960-5553, or visit: http://www.westmontchamber.com/uploads/5/8/3/0/58305259/scare_crow_decorating_contest_form_2019.pdf

WICKED WEST FEST HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST 
October 19 - 10:30AM
Downtown Westmont - Southwest corner of Cass and Irving

Dress up for Halloween and come to downtown Westmont to be part of this fun costume contest.  There will be six categories: Newborn to 1-year olds, 2-5 years old, 6-9 years old, 10-13 years old, 14 & older, and a group/family category (Must have at least 3 people).  For more information, contact Westmont Special Events at wsec@westmontevents.com or 630-829-9378.

PUMPKIN SMASHING EXTRAVAGANZA 
October 19 - 11AM 
Downtown Westmont - Corner of Cass and Irving

Westmont community groups and public agencies will compete in our annual pumpkin smashing extravaganza. Competitors will go 20 feet up in the air in a bucket truck and then throw their pumpkin at a target below in an attempt to earn the titles of Pumpkin King and Queen.  All of the fun is an effort to promote pumpkin recycling/composting.  For more information, contact communications@westmont.il.gov or 630-417-0280.

HALLOWEEN LIGHTS RECYCLING 
October 19 - 11AM to 1PM
Downtown Westmont - Corner of Cass and Irving

The Village of Westmont’s Environmental Improvement Committee (EIC) is teaming up with Elgin Recycling to provide a new Halloween lights recycling for residents.  Only holiday lights are accepted - please do not drop off ornaments, lawn decorations, or other Halloween decorations.  Also, holiday lights should not be placed in plastic bags.  For more information please visit westmont.illinois.gov/green.

TRICK OR TREAT TRAIL 
October 19 - 11AM to 1PM
Downtown Westmont on Cass

CASKETS ON CASS RACE
October 19 - 12:30PM 
Downtown Westmont on Cass

HAUNTED FOREST TOUR  
October 19 - 5 to 9:30PM; ticket sales 4:30 - 9:00PM at Diane Main Park
Diane Main Park - 200 W. 59th Street

Follow the trail and take a haunted hayrack ride through Smith Woods as ghosts, ghouls and monsters come alive before your very eyes! There will be a Merry Monsters Matinee, friendly monsters, performance from 5 to 6:30PM for younger children; Sheer Terror Tours run from 7  to 9:30pm. ZOMBIE CRAWL 
October 26 - 2 to 6PM
Various Locations Throughout Westmont

This event has been a tremendous success and provides an opportunity for adults to enjoy the Halloween season.  This event, hosted by Westmont Special Events, takes guests throughout the community visiting participating pubs and restaurants. Each location will have food and beverage specials as well as a fun Halloween activity.  There will be two routes to choose from.  This is a 21 and over event.  The $18 fee covers transportation, event coordination, and an event t-shirt.  Tickets and registration at westmontevents.com.  For more info, contact WSEC at wsec@westmontevents.com or 630-829-9378

HALLOWEEN FUN FAIR  
October 31 - 4:30 to 7:30PM
