At the Nov. 7 Village Board meeting, the Village of Westmont celebrated its 98th Anniversary and announced a new community-wide initiative that asks residents to share their vision of Westmont’s future.
“For each of the past four years, artist Fanny Moy has presented the community with a mural depicting a different era of Westmont’s history,” said Larry McIntyre, co-chair of the 100th Anniversary Committee. “The first mural featured Westmont prior to its incorporation in 1921 while the next three murals focused on the last 100 years. The final mural is intended to depict the future of Westmont, and this is where we need help from the community.”
SHARE YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF WESTMONT
Westmont citizens are asked to create and send their written or visual arts interpretation of Westmont’s future, specifically, the year 2121, which will be Westmont’s 200th Anniversary. Submissions will be reviewed and then forwarded to Moy, who will use the information to create the final installment of the historical murals. “We really want people to be creative,” said Moy. “Let us know what you think our future will be like.” Citizens can submit their submissions now through February 28, 2020. 98th ANNIVERSARY MURAL UNVEILED
Also at the Nov. 7 meeting, Moy revealed the fourth installment of the Westmont Historical mural series, which covered Westmont’s history from 1980 to present. A number of items featured in the mural are still popular today, such as various community events, local businesses, community parks, and more. The mural will be hung in the Westmont Library along with the previous three installments.
