In a ceremony held in Oak Park, Illinois on May 11, the Westmont Park District was recognized along with park and recreation organizations from throughout the area for their successful grant application to benefit local parks. The Westmont Park District is now eligible to received up to $281,500 in grant money for the purpose of acquiring open space to add park property to the community.
“The Westmont Park District has been very successful with our grant applications over the years,” say Park District President Bob Bernas. “We need to thank our excellent staff for bringing these funds to our community.”
The 4.75 acre parcel that is being pursued is located on South Wilmette between 56th and 59th Streets. “Upon completing the property purchase with the acquisition grant,” says Park District Asst. Director Bob Fleck, ”we will then be eligible to apply for a development grant so that we can enhance the property.” The project will unfold over the next several years.
