Posted on: May 4, 2020[ARCHIVED] Westmont Special Events Plans Virtual Taste of Westmont for 2020

“We love planning and hosting our events as much as people enjoy coming to them, but we have to respond appropriately to the current health and safety concerns,” said Westmont Special Events Corporation Executive Director Kristina Kaniauskaite. “We have been in close communication with the Village of Westmont and it was decided to not have our usual Taste of Westmont event in downtown Westmont on Cass Avenue. However, we are planning to have a ‘virtual’ Taste.”
The WSEC, which is an independent not-for-profit volunteer organization that hosts both the Taste of Westmont and Westmont Cruisin’ Nights, will be reaching out to its typical Taste of Westmont food vendors and sponsors to coordinate business specials, coupons, discounts, and special activities to encourage residents to give patronage to these businesses that support community events year in and year out. The virtual Taste of Westmont will run from July 7-10.
“It’s unfortunate, but we really don’t see how it’s possible to achieve safe social distancing guidelines with the Taste of Westmont,” said WSEC President Sam Alonzo. “There are just too many people. Hopefully, this all goes away a year from now and we come back better than ever. Our Mission Statement is to provide recreation and entertainment for the community, but that begins with making sure that our guests are safe.”
The WSEC has also decided that there will be no Cruisin’ Nights in June, but they are hopeful of the possibility of having Chicagoland’s most popular weekly car show return in the late Summer, possibly with modified event protocols and participation.
