Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: May 12, 2020
“Because we are being extremely careful with our budget as a result of the COVID-19 situation, we have not approved the expenditure for the downtown planters,” said Public Works Director Mike Ramsey, adding that the hanging flower baskets had been paid for prior to the pandemic’s effect on the economy. “Through various conversations, we’ve decided to create an Adopt-A-Planter Program to get the community involved to assist with keeping our downtown beautiful this summer.”
Resdents, businesses, and organizations will sign up for the program, and once their plans are approved, they will be assigned a planter. Then participants will adopt their planter and be responsible for purchasing the plants and flowers, planting them, and providing general maintenance and care, such as weeding, throughout the summer and fall. Westmont Public Works will be responsible for watering the planters. The Village will place an adoption sign in each planter identifying the person(s) or business who is sponsoring the planter.
The Adopt-A-Planter program will start May 18 and continue through the fall. As there is a limited number of planters in town, participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Please fill out the form below to apply.
