“When the pandemic began to impact all phases of life and the stay at home orders were issued, we weren’t sure how this might affect our Community Development operations as well as development projects in general,” said Westmont Community Development Director Bruce Sylvester. “We’re pleased to report that our office has continued to be extremely productive throughout this difficult time, and in fact, we’re on pace to have a record year for issuing permits and collecting related fees.”
Following are some of the CD stats for the first half of the year, January through June:
RESIDENTIAL
- 347 Residential Permits Issued
- $196,036 Residential Permit Fees
- $5,196,779 Estimated Residential Development Value
COMMERCIAL
- 111 Commercial Permits Issued
- $1,642,913 Commercial Permit Fees
- $22,324,763 Estimated Commercial Development Value
“I’m very proud of our staff,” added Sylvester. “They’ve done a tremendous job keeping up with the record amount of permit requests. During the very busy first half of 2020, Community Development staff also began utilizing complex new permit-tracking software, and the Department continues to use the Flat Fee Permitting Program and the Express Permitting Program that were adopted in late 2019. All of these new systems are anticipated to greatly improve our efficiency in issuing permit requests.”
BUSINESS PERMITS FAQ
The Community Development Department recently created and published an online Building Permits FAQ, which provides an overview to the department and the permitting process. As always, CD reminds residents and businesses that most home and business development and construction projects require permits, which are in place to ensure the safety of our citizens.
