Social Distancing Diligence
“We want to remind everyone that COVID-19 is still a health risk and that people need to be diligent regarding their personal safety practices such as social distancing, wearing masks when around others, and washing your hands regularly and thoroughly,” said Westmont Fire Chief Steve Riley. “Since Illinois moved to Phase 4 at the beginning of July, there has been a significant uptick in COVID-19 cases. Across the country, more than 40 states have seen a significant increase in cases as well, especially for people under the age of 30, who maybe felt that they would be immune and did not practice CDC guidelines. In some States, this has resulted in a surge that has overwhelmed hospital ICUs. We want people to know that this affects everyone regardless of age and other demographics. If a person is asymptomatic to COVID-19, they can still spread the virus to other people who might have a dramatically different experience if they are infected. Please be safe for the people around you as well as yourself. We can make a positive impact in protecting our community if we all do our part.”
Westmont Fire Department Receives Grant
U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 6th Congressional District Sean Casten recently contacted the Village of Westmont to share the news that the Westmont Fire Department received a $38,205 Assistance to Firefighters Grant, which was the biggest award in the State. Congratulations to the Westmont Fire Department for seeking and receiving these monies on behalf of the community.
