Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: September 10, 2020 - UPDATED: November 2, 2020
The Environmental Improvement Committee (EIC) will be hosting a pumpkin composting and holiday light recycling event Saturday, November 7, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Westmont Public Library located at 428 N. Cass Avenue. Residents are encouraged to drop off their used or unwanted pumpkins. Composting your pumpkin saves landfill space, hundreds of gallons of water, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and puts essential nutrients back into the soil. The EIC encourages everyone to green your Halloween and compost your pumpkins. All pumpkins MUST be cleaned and free of inorganic materials such as candles and other decorations prior to being disposed of in the composting collection container. Residents can also drop off used or unwanted holiday lights to be recycling. Volunteers will follow current COVID-19 guidelines for the event.
