Village of Westmont
Date Issued: June 5, 2013
On Thursday, June 6, Westmont Special Events will launch a new event in downtown Westmont that re-brands some popular pastimes with a new layout and more.
“When we met with residents and business owners to discuss new ideas for our summer events, the idea of closing the first block of North Cass for Cruisin’ Nights and the Fresh Market was suggested, and we’ve had a really good response,” says WSEC Vice President Emily Bandza. “We invite the entire community to come to downtown Westmont every week for great entertainment and family fun. And while you’re shopping at the fresh market and checking out the classic cars, be sure to visit our downtown businesses. We hope everyone helps us spread the word - Downtown Westmont is the place to be on Thursdays this summer.”
Cass Avenue from Burlington to Irving will be closed around 3 p.m. for setup, then the Fresh Market will begin at 4 p.m. and Cruisin’ Nights will begin at 6 p.m. The Fresh Market will end at 8 p.m., Cruisin’ Nights will end at 9 p.m., and Cass Avenue will re-open shortly after that.
“One of the new things we’re trying this year will be cooking demonstrations,” says WSEC Office Manager Kristine Turano. “Area restaurants, businesses and chefs will come out on different weeks to give demonstrations on how to make everything from desserts to smoothies. We’re really excited about it.” Also new in 2013, DJ Big Bopper, who attends numerous car shows in the area, will be on location most weeks to either emcee or DJ. The local Cub Scouts will have a Pinewood Derby Night in July. There will be remote-control car demos, weekly raffles, and more. And don’t forget Squad Car Night on June 20 and Fire Truck Night on July 25.
