On October 17, the Westmont Police Department, along with local business Docu-Shred, hosted their annual paper shredding event to benefit Special Olympics Illinois Torch Run Fundraising Campaign. The event raised $3,389.00 for Special Olympics Illinois. Docu-Shred reported that they shredded 6,580 pounds of paper during the event. On October 24, the Westmont Police Department held their annual prescription drug National Take Back Day event at the Westmont Police Department and Mariano’s in Westmont. The event collected more than 230 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs, which will now be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner. “We want to thank Docu-Shred, Inc.and Mariano’s for their continued support with our events,” said Westmont Police Chief Jim Gunther. “They are always so willing to help. Without them, these events wouldn’t be as successful as they are.”
