[ARCHIVED] Westmont Police Earn Accreditation

Police Accreditation3

Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: November 19, 2020

At the November 19, 2020 Village Board Meeting, as part of the VIllage’s 99th Anniversary Celebration, Mayor Ron Gunter recognized Police Chief Gunther and the Westmont Police Department for achieving accreditation with the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP).  The Westmont Police Department has not participated in the accreditation process since 2008.

“Participating in and achieving accreditation was one of our top goals this past year,” said Police Chief Jim Gunther.  “Going through this process enhances our professionalism and keeps us operating at an optimal level.  Being an accredited law enforcement agency demonstrates our commitment and dedication to serving the community.”

The Westmont Police Department participated in the ILEAP Tier II program, which is their most rigorous and challenging assessment consisting of 180 standards.  The assessment included department tours, vehicle inspections, ride alongs with staff, various interviews, and community feedback participation.  The Westmont Police Department received a perfect score.

Lou Jogmen, Chief of Police for the City of Highland Park and ILEAP member, commented on the achievement, “This process is important and timely.  The accreditation program speaks to a department’s desire to serve their community and be an elite agency.”  Jogmen read the plaque and presented it to Chief Gunther on behalf of the Village of Westmont.

The accreditation is valid for four years providing that the Department prepares an annual report to ILEAP.  Administrative Sergeant Craig Gomorczak served as the accreditation manager and was responsible for overseeing various aspects of the accreditation process.

ILEAP is the ongoing process whereby agencies evaluate policy and procedure against established criteria, and have compliance with those criteria verified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Council. The criteria, or standards, are policy development guidelines that represent a level of quality service delivery. The standards are divided into four general subject areas: Administration, Operations, Personnel, and Training.

The Village of Westmont congratulates Chief Gunther, Sergeant Gomorczak, and the entire Westmont Police Department on this outstanding achievement.
