[ARCHIVED] Westmont Moves to Tier 1 Mitigation

Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: January 26, 2021

Today, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced that Region 8 (DuPage and Kane) and Region 9 (Lake and McHenry) of the Restore Illinois Plan have moved to Tier 1 Mitigation. DuPage County, which includes the Village of Westmont, is part of Region 8.  Some of the Tier 1 mitigations include:

  • Indoor service limited to the lesser of 25 guests or 25% capacity per room
  • Establishments offering indoor service must serve food
  • All bar and restaurant patrons should be seated at tables
  • No ordering, seating, or congregating at bar (bar stools should be removed)
  • Tables should be 6 feet apart
  • No standing or congregating indoors or outdoors while waiting for a table or exiting

MEETINGS, SOCIAL EVENTS & GATHERINGS (including weddings, funerals, potlucks, etc.)

  • Limit to lesser of 25 guests or 25% of overall room capacity both indoors and outdoors
    • Applicable to professional, cultural and social group gatherings.
    • Not applicable to students participating in-person classroom learning, or sports.
    • This does not reduce the overall facility capacity dictated by general Phase 4 business guidance such as office, personal care, retail, etc.

  • Sports should follow the mitigation measures set forth in the All Sports Guidance, which outlines appropriate levels of practice and competition based on individual sport risk
  • Face coverings must be worn at all times in fitness centers, including while engaged in individual exercise regardless of person or machine spacing
  • Recreation, fitness centers and outdoor activities (not included in the above exposure settings) follow Phase 4 guidance

IDPH will continue to closely monitor test positivity, ICU bed availability, and the number of people in the hospital with COVID-19. Should data show regions trending in the wrong direction, based on the established mitigation metrics, regions could once again find themselves in a higher tier with increased measures.

While there have been recent improvements regarding COVID-19 cases and deaths, Westmont Fire Chief Steve Riley warns citizens to not let their guard down and to continue to be diligent with CDC guidelines including wearing masks in public, social distancing, and washing hands frequently.

Area vaccinations are being coordinated by the DuPage County Health Department.  The vaccination rollout from the federal government has been slower than what was projected in early December, but is expected to ramp up in the near future.  Because of the schedule delay and limited supply, Illinois citizens must register in order to receive the vaccination.  Vaccinations will be issued by scheduled appointment only.  The State of Illinois, in consultation with CDC recommendations, determines vaccination eligibility and priorities.

“Regarding COVID-19 information, we ask everyone to seek accurate information directly from the official source,” added Riley.  “We want to warn citizens that many posts on social media may be misleading or inaccurate.  Please check for current information on official websites managed by the CDC, Illinois Department of Public Health, and the DuPage County Public Health Department.  We will be sure to post updates on our Westmont website as well.  Our only goal is to help ensure the safety of our residents.”  Most of the following County, State and Federal COVID-19 informational websites have been recently updated with current information.
