Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: April 19, 2021
This spring, residents will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, literally, and assist with two different initiatives that will help our local ecology. “The River Sweep and Storm Drain Projects provide a great opportunity for the community to pull together and help improve our environment,” said Bruce Barker, chair of the Environmental Improvement Committee. “We encourage everyone to sign up and get involved to help make a difference in Westmont.”
Saturday, May 15 - 9 a.m. to Noon
Over 20 other communities throughout the County, including the Village of Westmont, will work together to participate in this year’s DuPage River Sweep Program on Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. With the help of the Westmont volunteers over the years, thousands of pounds of garbage have been cleared out of local creeks and many invasive species have been removed creating a healthier environment for its inhabitants. The River Sweep program, organized by The Conservation Foundation, is dedicated to preserving open space and natural lands, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of the environment in northeast Illinois.
