[ARCHIVED] Westmont Hosts Open Houses in Conjunction with 100th Anniversary Celebration

100th Ann Open Houses

Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: July 16, 2021

Continuing Westmont’s year-long 100th Anniversary Celebration, various Village Departments will host monthly open houses leading up to the Village’s official anniversary on Wednesday, November 10.  The Westmont Police Department, Westmont Public Works, and Westmont Fire Department will have open houses in August, September, and October.  The open houses provide a great opportunity for residents to come and learn more about various departments and services provided by the Village of Westmont.  Coinciding with the open houses, each agency will debut a written history for their department, which will be published on the village website.

“Our departments do an amazing job on behalf of our residents and businesses and we want to showcase their hard work,” said Mayor Ron Gunter, who is the chair of the 100th Anniversary Committee.  “As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we invite everyone to come to these events to visit our excellent facilities and meet our wonderful staff members.”

Police Department Open House & National Night Out
August 3rd - 5 to 8pm
Westmont Police Department - 500 N. Cass Avenue

The‌ ‌Westmont‌ ‌Police‌ ‌Department‌ will ‌host ‌an‌ ‌Open‌ ‌House‌ ‌in conjunction with the ‌National‌ ‌Night‌ ‌Out‌ ‌Event‌ ‌on‌ ‌Tuesday,‌ ‌August‌ 3,‌ ‌from 5:00‌ ‌p.m.‌ ‌to‌ ‌8:00‌ ‌p.m.‌ at the WPD facility at 500 N. Cass Avenue.‌ ‌ ‌The event will include facility‌ ‌and‌ ‌vehicle‌ ‌tours,‌ ‌kids‌ ‌activities,‌ ‌and‌ ‌food‌ ‌prepared‌ ‌by‌ ‌the‌ ‌Westmont‌ ‌Lions‌ ‌Club.‌  ‌McGruff‌ ‌and‌ ‌Radar‌ ‌the‌ ‌remote-controlled‌ ‌squad‌ ‌car‌ ‌will‌ ‌also be in attendance.‌ ‌

 ‌The‌ ‌Police‌ ‌Department‌ ‌will‌ ‌have‌ ‌several‌ ‌information‌ ‌tables‌ ‌providing‌ ‌materials‌ ‌regarding‌ their ‌Citizen‌ ‌Police‌ ‌Academy,‌ ‌Special‌ ‌Olympics,‌ ‌wild animals‌ ‌and‌ pet safety, and more.‌  ‌In‌ ‌addition‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌Police‌ Department‌ ‌informational‌ ‌tables‌, ‌there‌ ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌be‌ ‌informational‌ ‌tables‌ ‌with‌ ‌representatives‌ ‌from‌ ‌

West Suburban Animal Hospital, Westmont Pharmacy, Westmont Park District, Westmont Library, People’s Resource Center, Reclaim13, DuPage Health Department, Hope's Front Door, YWCA, Clemens Enterprises, Illinois State Representative Deanne Mazzochi, musical performances organized by Uncle John’s Music, and a COVID Vaccine clinic held in the Health Department parking lot at 422 N. Cass Avenue.

‌National‌ ‌Night‌ ‌Out‌ ‌is‌ ‌an‌ ‌annual‌ ‌community-building‌ ‌campaign‌ ‌that‌ ‌promotes‌ ‌police-community‌ ‌partnerships‌ ‌and‌ ‌neighborhood‌ ‌camaraderie‌ ‌to‌ ‌make‌ ‌our‌ ‌neighborhoods‌ ‌safer,‌ ‌more‌ ‌caring‌ ‌places‌ ‌to‌ ‌live.‌  ‌Many ‌cities‌ ‌and‌ ‌towns‌ ‌celebrate‌ ‌National‌ ‌Night‌ ‌Out‌ ‌by‌ ‌hosting‌ ‌block‌ ‌parties,‌ ‌festivals,‌ ‌parades,‌ ‌cookouts‌ ‌and‌ ‌other‌ ‌various‌ ‌community‌ ‌events‌ ‌with‌ ‌safety‌ ‌demonstrations,‌ ‌seminars,‌ ‌youth‌ ‌events,‌ ‌emergency‌ ‌personnel‌ visits, ‌and‌ ‌exhibits.‌ ‌ ‌For‌ more ‌information regarding the Police Department Open House, please ‌contact‌ Sgt. Public Works Open House
September 25 - 10am to 1pm
Public Works Facility - 155 E. Burlington Avenue

The‌ ‌Westmont‌ ‌Public Works ‌ Department will showcase their new facility at 155 E. Burlington Avenue on September 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  

The event will include two different tours (water plant tour and facility tour), forestry demonstration, tree species contest, build-a-hydrant demonstration, public works/community trivia contest, coupons and information regarding upcoming events including pumpkin composting and seedling giveaway, touch-a-truck display, water tower building contest, and more.  

The event will also include the debut of a Westmont Public Works history display in the lobby of the new facility.  A complete schedule of tours and events will be published prior to the event.  Free hot dogs and refreshments will be provided.  For more information, please contact public works at 630-981-6270.

Fire Department Open House
October 2 - 11am to 2pm
Johanik Fire Station Headquarters - 6015 S. Cass Avenue

The‌ ‌Westmont‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Department‌ ‌will host their ‌annual‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Prevention‌ ‌Week Open‌ ‌House‌ ‌on‌ ‌Saturday,‌ ‌October‌ ‌2 from‌ ‌11‌ ‌a.m.‌ ‌to‌ ‌2 ‌p.m.‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌Johanik‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Department Headquarters,‌ ‌6015‌ ‌S.‌ ‌Cass‌ ‌Avenue.‌  ‌The‌ ‌department‌ ‌has‌ ‌several‌ ‌fun‌ ‌and‌ ‌educational‌ ‌activities‌ ‌planned‌ as well as free‌ ‌hot‌ ‌dogs,‌ ‌chips‌, ‌and‌ ‌bottled‌ ‌water‌ ‌to‌ ‌those‌ ‌who‌ ‌attend.‌

Leading up to the Fire Department Open House, there will be a “Find the fire truck” contest.  Every day for a week leading up to the open house, the Fire Department will park a fire truck in a different location somewhere within Westmont and challenge residents to find the truck, take a picture of it, and post on social media.  All entries will be entered into a raffle which will be announced at the open house on October 2.  More details will be published prior to the event.

‌The‌ ‌open house will include the Faces‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Service‌ ‌Fashion‌ ‌Show‌,‌ repelling demonstration, ‌touch-a-truck program, kids‌ ‌inflatable‌ ‌obstacle‌ ‌course and bounce house,‌ ‌equipment‌ ‌demonstrations,‌ ‌Emergency‌ ‌Management‌ ‌Agency‌ ‌displays,‌ ‌the‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Department‌ ‌and‌ ‌Police‌ ‌Department‌ ‌Bounce‌ ‌House,‌ face painting, and visits from Sparky‌ ‌the‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Dog‌ ‌and‌ ‌Freddie‌ ‌the‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Truck‌.  The‌ ‌open‌ ‌house‌ ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌feature‌ ‌a‌ ‌scrapbook‌ ‌showcasing‌ ‌historical‌ ‌photos‌ ‌and‌ ‌news‌ ‌clipping‌ ‌dating‌ ‌back‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌early‌ ‌20th‌ ‌century.‌ ‌ ‌For‌ ‌more‌ ‌information,‌ ‌contact‌ ‌the‌ ‌Westmont‌ ‌Fire‌ ‌Department‌ ‌at‌ ‌630-981-6400.‌ 

Westmont’s 100th Anniversary Celebration
November 10 - 5pm to 7pm
Westmont Village Hall - West Quincy Street

The 100th Anniversary Committee has been discussing a variety of ideas regarding the actual 100th Anniversary Celebration on November 10 at Village Hall and West Quincy Street.  Ideas being considered include the dedication of the new train station plaza, the unveiling of the final 100th Anniversary historical mural, a Westmont trivia contest, the burying of a new time capsule next to Village Hall, music, refreshments, fireworks, and more.
