Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: January 12, 2022
The Westmont Fire Department has created a second RxBOX location at the Johanik Fire Station Headquarters located at 6015 S. Cass Avenue. The RxBOX program allows for residents to safely dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs in a safe manner. The program is in partnership with the DuPage County Health Department. The RxBOX program kicked off in Westmont last year establishing its first location in the lobby of the Westmont Police-Fire facility at 500 N. Cass Avenue.
Residents will have access to both RxBOX locations during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. RxBOX is a convenient and accessible way for citizens to dispose of unwanted medications that might otherwise be misused or end up in our waterways or landfills.
“Now we have the opportunity to provide our community with two locations to safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs,” said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin O’Hare, who assisted with the creation of the program and securing the second RxBOX location. “Proper disposal of unused medications protects the environment and saves lives.”
Citizens are encouraged to dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs using the RxBOX. The medications will then be incinerated in collaboration with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
