Westmont, Illinois – Date Issued: March 23, 2022
On March 23, 2022, the Westmont Fire Department was dispatched for an activated fire alarm at 5:11 a.m. at 56 W. Pier Drive. Fire crews arrived within 4 minutes and found heavy fire and smoke visible from a first floor unit. Fire Department crews began immediate fire suppression. Upon making entry into the unit, crews located one victim at the front door. Paramedics began life saving measures and the patient was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The fire was fully extinguished at 5:35 a.m. No other victims were found. There was smoke and water damage to two units within 56 W. Pier Drive. Fire crews had to make a ventilation hole in the roof to release smoke and heated gasses.
At this time, the fire is being investigated by the Westmont Fire Department, the Westmont Police Department, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal, which is typical protocol when there is a civilian injury. The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature. No additional information is available at this time.
