Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: March 24, 2022
The Village of Westmont was one of 10 Illinois communities recognized for receiving the SolSmart designation, which is awarded to communities that have made a significant commitment to ensuring that solar power is a viable energy option for residents and businesses.
“This is an exciting achievement for Westmont,“ said Village Trustee Bruce Barker, who is the chair of the Westmont Environmental Improvement Committee (EIC). “Initially, this project was driven by our EIC resident volunteers. Working with staff, we were able to follow through on the specific criteria needed for the designation. We hope that our residents and businesses will take advantage of this opportunity and we encourage everyone to check out how they can go solar.”
To achieve the designation, Westmont Community Development staff made specific clarifications and changes to the permitting process as it relates to solar projects, all of which were designed to improve solar power permitting efficiency. Additionally, Village Communications created a new solar power webpage that includes numerous helpful resources pertaining to solar power including links to ComEd tax credit information, how to find a reputable solar contractor, solar consumer protection information, the Mayors Metropolitan Caucus Solar Power Resource page, and specific links to Village of Westmont codes and information relating to solar power.
Illinois leads the nation with a total of 59 communities that have achieved designation under the national SolSmart program. For more information, visit the Village of Westmont Solar Power website page. For more information regarding this program, please visit the SolSmart website.
