Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: July 6, 2022
On June 30, the Village of Westmont and the Westmont Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for the new James Addington Plaza located near the Westmont Train Station at Cass and West Quincy Street. Dozens of people attended the event that honored Addington, who was a former Mayor and community volunteer.
“It was my honor to be part of this event that celebrated my good friend and mentor,” said Mayor Ron Gunter. “I want to thank everyone who participated in the ceremony. Jim did so much for the community and this is a fitting way to remember a person who cared about Westmont so much.”
Addington, who passed away in the summer of 2020, served as an elected official and community volunteer for more than four decades. He served as Mayor of Westmont and presided over the community’s 75th anniversary celebration in 1996. His community involvement included participation with the Westmont Lion’s Club and he was instrumental in the coordination of numerous community events.
Photographs and a video of the presentation can be viewed on the village website photo gallery.
