There are several current construction projects in the Village of Westmont that will impact vehicle travel over the next several months.
EAST DES MOINES AND RICHMOND WATER MAIN
The Village of Westmont has begun a substantial water main replacement project to be installed on East Des Moines Street between Cass Avenue and Richmond Avenue as well as on Richmond Avenue between Des Moines and Richmond Street. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The improvement project will include over 4,200 feet of underground water main. In addition, at specific residences impacted by the improvement, new water service connections will be installed between the home shutoff valves and the water main. Affected residences have been notified of this work and potential impact regarding temporary blocking of driveways and roadways as well as short periods of interrupted water service.
DOWNTOWN ALLEY PROJECT - WEST QUINCY
Construction has begun for the Village’s Central Business District (CBD) Alley Reconstruction Project in Section G, which is parallel to West Quincy Street between Lincoln Street and 1 W. Quincy. The alley will be constructed using decorative pervious brick pavers with a pervious concrete base for structural stability. Depending on weather conditions, completion is expected by Summer of 2023. The project will be completed in stages in order to minimize disruption to local residents and businesses as well as allow construction hiatus during winter. Stage 1 will include the east-west portion of the alley that is parallel to West Quincy Street and is expected to be completed late Fall 2022. Stage 2 is expected to begin Spring 2023 and be completed by Summer 2023. The entire alley will be completely closed throughout each stage of this process. Residents directly impacted by this project will have an opportunity to secure overnight parking in various village managed lots. Temporary parking details as well as recycling and garbage pick-up information should be available through the property management company impacted by this project.
