[ARCHIVED] Westmont seeks community feedback on video gaming

WESTMONT SEEKS COMMUNITY FEEDBACK ON VIDEO GAMING

Issued: August 1, 2012
Contact: Thomas Mulhearn, Chief of Police

In 2009, the Village of Westmont voted to ban video gaming terminals in Westmont until the State of Illinois and the Illinois Gaming Board finalized state statutes and administrative rules concerning video gaming in Illinois.

Recently, the State Legislature and the Illinois Gaming Board approved legislation and administrative rules for video gaming in Illinois. This information can be found on the Gaming Board’s website at www.igb.illinois.gov under the IGB Link titled Video Gaming.

Video gaming terminals (VGTs) can only be placed in four specific types of businesses. These businesses include: businesses that have a liquor license, a licensed fraternal establishment, a licensed veterans establishment, or a licensed truck stop establishment.

Recently, a local business owner requested that the Village of Westmont revisit the issue of video gaming in Westmont and reconsider their previous ban of video gaming. This issue is very important to the Westmont Village Board of Trustees and they are seeking the public’s opinion on this issue.

Citizens are asked to visit www.westmont.illinois.gov and click on the link to the Citizen Survey on Video Gaming in Westmont. Citizens can either fill out the survey online or stop at the Village Hall 31 West Quincy or the Police Station 500 North Cass Avenue and fill out a paper survey.

For more information on this topic, please contact Deputy Chief of Police James Gunther or Chief of Police Tom Mulhearn at 630-981-6300
