Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: November 14, 2022
The Village of Westmont recently approved updates to various aspects of the Westmont Building Code to reflect joint recommendations by the Westmont Community Development Department and the Westmont Fire Department. These updates reflect standards created by the International Code Council along with local amendments. These changes will take effect on December 1, 2022, but will not be incorporated into the Village Website online listing of Westmont’s Municipal Code until early 2023. Following is a list of the various codes that were updated:
- 2021 I-Codes - International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Fire Code, International Property Maintenance Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, International Existing Building Code, and International Energy Conservation Code
- 2021 Life Safety Codes - National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101
- 2020 National Electric Code (NEC)
- NOTE: Each of these codes were approved local amendments
The International Code Council publishes code updates every 3 years, however, it is a common practice for municipalities to not necessarily adopt the latest standards immediately so that some updates may occur gradually if deemed appropriate and beneficial for the community.
These new code updates have been published on a temporary webpage so that citizens, contractors, and developers can immediately access these changes and be aware of the new standards. In early 2023, these code updates will be added to the Village’s online code module, which is known as Municode.
WESTMONT CODE UPDATES - Effective December 1, 2022
Viable/valid permit submissions received prior to December 1, 2022 will be subject to and reviewed under the previous code sets and ordinances. However, submissions received on or after December 1, 2022 will be subject to the newly adopted codes and local ordinances.
