Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: August 4, 2023
Early this morning, shortly after 5:30 a.m., Mayor Ron Gunter participated in a fun on-air segment on WGN-TV Channel 9 in which the Mayor and the station celebrated Traffic Reporter Sarah Jindra on her last day as part of the morning show program before moving to a new WGN afternoon program that will be starting soon. Mayor Gunter joked with Jindra regarding several “rejected” ideas for honoring Jindra before sharing the real honor, which included presenting Jindra with a Westmont Key to the Village. Jindra, who grew up in Westmont and graduated from Westmont High School, has proudly promoted the slogan “Westmont is the Bestmont” for many years on-air at WGN.
“We want to thank the Mayor and Westmont Village staff for working on this with us,” said WGN-TV Morning News Producer Mike Wilder. “Sarah has a great passion for her hometown and this was a great way to thank her for excellent work on the morning show over the years.”
The script for the segment included a tongue-in-cheek list of “rejected” ideas for honoring Jindra including the suggestion of renaming the Westmont Train Station to “Sarah’s Stop”, putting Sarah’s picture on the Westmont water tower, and retheming the Taste of Westmont as “Jindra’s Nug Fest” in honor of Sarah’s affinity for chicken “nugs” nuggets. A recorded video clip of the segment has been posted on the WGN-TV website.
The Village of Westmont congratulates Sarah as she moves to her new WGN program in which she will co-host Spotlight Chicago, starting in September. We thank her for her many years of support for the community of Westmont and wish her success with her new show.
