[ARCHIVED] Park District Receives $2.4 Million Grant

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: Oct. 13, 2014

The Westmont Park District recently received official notice that they are the recipients of a Department of Natural Resource’s PARC Grant for more than $2.4 Million. The grant will be used to create a multi-purpose arts and rec facility at Ty Warner Park.

"This is a great honor for our community," says Park District Director Ron Gunter. “Without these funds, we would not be able to do this project. This multi-unit facility will provide our community with numerous new programs and services. We could not be more pleased with this announcement.”

This proposed 10,000 sq.ft. building will have multiple uses including early childhood to senior programming, cultural and performing arts programs and performances, fitness and dance classes, a banquet room for rentals and conferences, and a home location for our Progressive Village Performance Network (PVPN) theater group. The facility will also provide space for the SEASPAR program. This facility was included in the original Ty Warner Park Master Plan that was created in 1999, but was not realized at that time due to funding limitations. This project will allow the Westmont Park District the opportunity to expand programming and services in one of the most beautiful parks in the western suburbs.

The exact grant award is $2,476,012.50, which is approximately 75% of the total cost for this project. The remainder of the cost will come from Park District operating revenue. This project will not cost Westmont citizens any additional taxes or fees.

The Governor’s Office is currently planning to visit Westmont to make an official presentation regarding the issuance of the grant. Look for information regarding this presentation to be publicized in the near future.
