Village of Westmont
Date Issued: October 27, 2014
For the past several years, the employees of the Village of Westmont have spearheaded a community initiative to collect winter coats and donate them to area families in need. This year’s drive will initially begin Oct. 20 and continue through Nov. 21. Donations will be forwarded to local resource programs and food pantries.
Items being collected include new and gently used coats (please wash all items before donating) all sizes, scarves, gloves and snow-pants. Monetary donations are also accepted.
“We were very successful last year,” says Cathy Crane, one of the Village employees who volunteers annually to coordinate this event. “Over several months, we collected and donated 111 coats, 40 new hats, 30 scarves, 10 pairs of gloves and mittens, and 6 pairs of boots. We want to thank everyone who supported this effort.”
Collection sites include the Village Hall, 31 W. Quincy; Westmont Police Department, 500 N. Cass; Westmont Fire Department, 6015 S. Cass; Westmont Park District, 75 E. Richmond St.; and, new this year, the Westmont Library, 428 N. Cass. If you are interested in making a donation or getting involved with this program, contact Patti Mielcarski at pmielcarski@westmont.il.gov or 630-981-6216.
