[ARCHIVED] Westmont Public Works Announces 2015 Projects

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: May 8, 2015

“Each year, the Village of Westmont budgets for various infrastructure improvement projects based on needs and available resources,” says Acting Public Works Director Mike Ramsey. “In recent years, the Village has been very aggressive in addressing the needs of our community. At this time, we’ve determined the projects that will be slated for 2015. As with all construction projects, it is important to understand that much of our work is weather dependent and crews may be working on several projects in various locations at the same time. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this process.”

Following is a list of Village infrastructure projects slated for 2015:

2015 SPRING MFT STREET RESURFACING PROJECT
Beginning May 2015, completion expected by August 2015. The cost of this project is $1,634,978.32, which was the low bid from K-5 Construction, which will be budgeted from the Village’s $8.5 million dollar street resurfacing bond.
* Indian Trails Subdivision
* Chestnut Avenue between Cass and Blackhawk
* Plaza Drive between Cass and East End
* Wilmette Avenue between Ogden and Chicago
* Warwick Avenue between Ogden and Chicago
* Linden Avenue between Chicago and Burlington
* Norfolk Street between Cass and East Village Limits
* Cumnor Road between Naperville and Burlington
* Williams Street between Naperville and Burlington
* Burlington Avenue between Cumnor and Cass

2015 FALL MFT STREET RESURFACING PROJECT
Beginning Summer 2015, completion expected Fall 2015. This project is advertised for a bid opening on May 19.
* Lincoln Street between Quincy Street to 55th Street
* 59th Street between Cass Avenue to Cumnor Road
* 61st Street between Williams Street to Fairview Avenue
* Williams Street between 63rd Street and 67th Street
* Cove Lane between Williams Street and west limits
* Tracey Court between Williams Street and west limits
* Falcon Place between Cass Avenue and east limits
* East Cass Avenue Alley between 55th Street to Linden Avenue

JAMESTOWN DETENTION BASIN MODIFICATION PROJECT
Currently, the detention facility located at the southeast corner of Oakwood Drive and 35th Street is experiencing outflow issues. This project will modify the outlet pipe of the basin to improve water flow from the basin. Construction includes outlet modification, a new storm sewer, and other related work. Going to bid by this Summer. This project is expected to begin late Summer and be completed by Fall 2015.

ST. JOSEPH’S CREEK STABILIZATION PROJECT
The Village of Westmont has partnered with all of the property owners along St. Joseph's Creek between 61st and 63rd Streets to address a common streambank erosion issue. This streambank stabilization project involves both land transfers as well as physical construction of stabilization methods including stone toes, gabion walls, and natural vegetation. The cost of this project is $338,470.00. Construction began in early March with tree clearing. Excavation will begin as weather permits. We expect construction to be completed by Summer 2015.

CUMNOR ROAD RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Cumnor Road between 59th and 61st Streets is a substandard roadway that the Village inherited when this area was annexed into Westmont in the early 2000's. The current width of the roadway varies between 16-18 feet wide and is showing signs of base failure. Construction improvements include the reconstruction of the roadway utilizing pervious concrete, curbs, storm sewer, sidewalk, street lighting, and other related work. This project is advertised for a bid opening on May 19. Construction is expected to begin by Summer and should be completed by the end of 2015.

WEST END & PARK STREET WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT
The Village is replacing 2,800 linear feet of 80 year old 6" cast iron water main with new 8" P.V.C. water main by directional drilling. This project is expected to begin by Summer and be completed by Fall 2015. Currently, this project is in design and bid has not been completed. The Village will also be installing eight new fire hydrants and two new valves.

IDOT ROUTE 83 RESURFACING PROJECT
This is not a Village of Westmont project, but may impact Westmont residents. IDOT is performing standard resurfacing along Route 83 between Knollwood Road to Route 56. The majority of this work will be completed at night, however, there will be miscellaneous work performed during the day. Work started in early May 2015 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
