Date Issued: May 28, 2015
This year marks the 13th consecutive year that police officers from throughout the State of Illinois will stake out the rooftops of more than 150 Dunkin’ Donuts to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Illinois. Chief Tom Mulhearn, members of the Westmont Police Department, and members of the Citizens Police Academy will be at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 19 W. 63rd Street in Westmont on Friday, May 29, from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“This is a great cause and we’re happy to be part of this event,” says Chief Mulhearn, who has participated in the Cop On Top Program for the past 5 years. “The goal is to heighten awareness and raise money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. I want to thank all of the participants who partake, all of the volunteers who help make this happen, and Dunkin’ Donuts for their generosity.”
In return for the police officers doing time at their stores, Dunkin’ Donuts will donate $15,000 to the Torch Run fund. In addition, everyone who visits a Cop on Top store and makes a donation to the Torch Run will receive a free donut. Individuals who donate at least $10 will receive a Law Enforcement Torch Run travel mug (while supplies last) and a coupon for a free medium coffee. Other items, such as Torch Run T-shirts will be sold for $15.
