[ARCHIVED] Detective Glynn Named New School Resource Officer

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: Oct. 30, 2015

The Westmont Police Department recently named Detective Nick Glynn as the new School Resource Officer (SRO) for the community. Police Chief Tom Mulhearn introduced Glynn to the community on Oct. 29, 2016 at the Village Board Meeting.

Glynn thanked Community Unit School District 201 for the warm welcome he received during the first few months of the new school year. Westmont Jr. High School Assistant Principal Amy Quattrone said that Nick has been well received by the students. “In such a short time, Nick has ingratiated himself into our school culture, and is already a successful mentor, confidante, and role model to many of our students,” says Quattrone. Amy added that she has also received positive feedback from CUSD201 parents. “After speaking to several parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences, it was wonderful to hear such positive remarks about Detective Nick’s impact on the students of CUSD 201.”

Glynn has been part of the Westmont Police Department for 14 years. During that time, Nick has served in the patrol division as a bike, juvenile, and gang officer. He has also served as the firearms instructor and a member of the FIAT SWAT Task Force for 8 years. Glynn has received certification for 40 hours of juvenile officer training as well as other juvenile related classes.

“My goal is to provide a safe learning environment for the kids and staff,” says Glynn. “Here in the first few months, my first priority has been to develop positive relationships with the staff and students. Students meet with me before and after school, as well as lunch time, to discuss school work, grades, missing assignments and life issues. We set goals together and once they are achieved we celebrate their success.”

In the next year, parents can expect SRO presentations ranging from Drivers Ed, Stranger Danger, Internet Safety, Bullying, Cyber-Bullying, and Run-Hide-Fight survival strategies.

“As we welcome Det. Glynn to his new role, we want to be sure to thank our previous School Resource Officer Mike Weibler,” says Police Chief Tom Mulhearn. “We’re sure SRO Glynn will continue the very positive relationship we have with our area schools.”
