[ARCHIVED] Volunteers Needed For Environmental Projects - Storm Drain Stenciling May 7 & River Sweep May 21

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: March 11, 2016

“These two initiatives are great opportunities for our residents to get involved with projects that will help our local environment,” says Village Trustee Harold Barry III, who is the board liaison to the Environmental Improvement Commission. “We want to thank the Westmont First Committee for taking the lead on making this happen. It’s projects like these that truly make a difference.” The Village of Westmont’s Westmont First Committee and Environmental Improvement Commission have joined forces to work with the DuPage Conservation Foundation to coordinate a Storm Drain Stenciling Project on May 7 and a River Sweep Cleanup on May 21.

STORM DRAIN STENCILING PROJECT - May 7

The Storm Drain Stenciling Project consists of volunteers working together to spray paint a stencil around stormwater drains so that people know not to put dangerous materials into the storm drain. All supplies will be provided. Up to 100 volunteers will be needed for this project.

DUPAGE RIVER SWEEP PROGRAM - May 21

The Village of Westmont will participate in the DuPage River Sweep Program on May 21 along with more than 20 other communities throughout the County. The program focuses on coordinating local volunteers in an effort to help clean up our area waterways. Over the years, Westmont volunteers have removed thousands of pounds of garbage out of St. Joseph’s Creek. The River Sweep is organized by The Conservation Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving open space and natural lands, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of the environment in northeast Illinois.
