“The Westmont Police Department is proud to support Special Olympics Illinois,” says Sgt. Brian Gruen, who coordinates fundraisers on behalf of Special Olympics. “Each year, our contributions to Special Olympics continue to grow. We’re hoping to have our best year ever in 2016.”
Recently, the Westmont Police Department received recognition from Special Olympics Illinois for raising over $5,000.00 for the charity in 2015. Local Special Olympic Gold Medalist winners visited the Village Hall to meet with Mayor Ronald Gunter and staff in honor of this achievement.
“Special Olympics creates opportunities for children and adults with special needs to participate in competitive sports,” says Westmont Police Chief Tom Mulhearn, who has been part of the Torch Run event for more than 5 years. “We encourage everyone to support this great cause. It really does make a difference in the lives of these young people.”
The next Special Olympics Illinois fundraiser in Westmont will be the DUNKIN’ DONUTS COP ON TOP event on Friday, May 20, from 6 a.m. to Noon. Chief Mulhearn and friends will sit on top of the Dunkin’ Donuts, 19 W. 63rd Street in Westmont, to encourage people to stop by and make purchases that will benefit Special Olympics. The Westmont Police Department is also planning a paper shredding fundraiser for later in the year.
