On Saturday, June 4, 2016, the Westmont Police Department will host an Open House and Auction of Unclaimed Property at their facility at 500 N. Cass Avenue.
“At least once a year, we like to invite the community to visit their Police Department and take a small tour of the facility,” said Police Chief Tom Mulhearn. “Along with the open house, we will have a public auction of unclaimed property. We invite the entire community to come out and participate.”
AUCTION AT 9 A.M.
The auction will begin at 9 a.m. Pre-auction inspection will be at 8:45 a.m. The auction will take place at the rear of the Police facility. Guests are asked to park in the Westmont Library parking lot, 428 N. Cass, or the DuPage County Health Facility parking lot located just south of the Library.
Items being auctioned will include bicycles, tools, DVD's/Games and more, including gold jewelry with a total melt value in excess of $1600.00. All sales are final, all items are sold as is, we do not accept returns. Participants may pay for their purchase in cash or a check if they are a local resident. Credit card purchases are not accepted.
OPEN HOUSE AT 11 A.M.
The Police Department open house will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be facility and vehicle tours, kid’s events, and food provided by the Westmont Lion’s Club.
For children ages 6 through 13, there will be a series of fun competitions in which participants will receive a certificate from the Police Department. Activities will include a radar-timed baseball throw and a horseshoes-like handcuff toss event. Kids and families will also be able to take pictures while sitting in a squad car. Everyone will be invited to post their event pictures on social media. Everyone will also be invited to participate in a CSI-style crime scene situation. McGruff and Radar the remote-controlled squad car will be on hand.
The Police Department will also have several information tables providing materials regarding our Citizen Police Academy, Special Olympics, and general safety information. Also, hot dogs and refreshments will be provided by the Westmont Lion’s Club.
