[ARCHIVED] Holly Days 5K Run & Walk on Nov. 24

PRESS RELEASE
Date Issued: November 8, 2012

This year, the Westmont Rotary Club will be jumping in feet first to get involved with the Westmont Holly Days Festival, literally. “In 2012, the Rotary Club has stepped up to coordinate our Holly Days 5K Family Run and Walk,” says Holly Days Co-Chair Steve Golembiewski. “We’re excited to add yet another community group to the Holly Days team as this is truly a group effort by our public agencies and community organizations.”

The Holly Days 5K Family Run and Walk will take place on November 24 with registration at 7:00 a.m. and the race starting at 8:00 a.m. As in past years, the course runs through the streets of downtown Westmont, north of the Burlington-Northern train tracks. Runners and walkers of all fitness levels are welcome to participate and the first 200 registered entrants will receive a free Holly Days 5K shirt.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register online at www.westmontrotaryclub.org/5krun through November 19. The race fee will be $30 per adult, $20 per child 15 and younger. There will be registration on the day of the race from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. for an additional $10 per person.

“The Westmont Rotary is excited to be a part of this event,” stated Rotary member and Race Chair Paul Fisher. “This event will raise money for our various community initiatives including our scholarship program.” The Westmont Rotary has donated over $45,000 in scholarships in the past ten years.

All race participants will receive a goody bag, post-race snacks, and will be eligible for awards. Plus, runners and walkers will get to warm up with a nice hot bowl of delicious chili from DJ’s Sports Bar & Grill. Registration, awards and post race activities will be held at Westmont Centre, 1 S. Cass Avenue.

Residents should be aware that there will be several street closures in the downtown area west of Cass Avenue between Burlington Avenue and Traube. Notices will be delivered to all residents who live on the streets that will be affected.

For more information on the Holly Days 5K, contact the Westmont Park District at www.wpd4fun.org or 630-963-5252.
