Over the last two years, the Village of Westmont’s Public Works Department completed the the change out of all the lights in the downtown area to LED, high-efficient lights. Westmont received a $50,000 grant that is 50% reimbursed to replace the pedestrian lights in the Downtown area. “Our Public Works Department replaced all 150 bulbs in house,” said Mike Ramsey, Director of Public Works.
The pedestrian lights that were replaced run along Cass Avenue, Quincy Street, and Burlington Avenue. “The LED lights use less wattage and amperage and are about 30% brighter than the old bulbs,” said Public Works Department Staff Randy Tuchow. “We will save over $7,000 by not having to buy replacement bulbs so often.”
The new LED lights have a 15 to 20-year life span. “The total energy cost savings for one year is $11,267,” said Ramsey. “That’s almost a half a million dollars in 20 years.” This is just one more example of the Village of Westmont demonstrating its commitment to the environment and green initiatives.
