“Our first installment of the 100th Anniversary Historical Mural project was fabulous,” said Mayor Ron Gunter. “Local artist Fanny Moy did an amazing job depicting the history of early Westmont. Now we’re ready to begin work on the second phase of this five-part mural series, so we’re inviting local artists to submit their interest in this project.”

“The concept we created is to do a total of five murals, with a new mural being debuted each year   on our Village’s Anniversary date for the next five years,” stated Anniversary Committee Co-Chair Larry McIntyre. “The first mural was unveiled last November 10th, which was the Village’s 95th Anniversary. This next installment will be unveiled in November of this year. We will do this annually leading up to our 100th Anniversary Celebration.

At this time, the 100th Anniversary Committee is asking for local artists interested in participating on the second phase of this project to sign up.  The online sign-up form asks for contact information, artistic background, and samples of work.  A mural oversight committee will review submissions as well as coordinate the on-going project.  Artists strengths should be in the areas of illustration and murals.  This mural will depict Westmont’s history from the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s.  The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 3.

“The first mural will soon be hung at the Library,” said Trustee Bruce Barker, who helped coordinate the effort. “Eventually, all five murals will be on display at the Library and the complete piece will illustrate Westmont’s history from pre-incorporation, to the present, and into the future.”
