Mike Ramsey, Director of Westmont Public Works, is challenging Westmont Jr. High and Westview Jr. High School students to put their thinking caps on. The first ever Model Water Tower Competition will be held March 18, 2017 at Westmont Jr. High. “This competition provides students with a fun-filled, science orientated competition aimed at introducing Jr. and High school students to opportunities in the water profession.” said Ramsey.
The competition requires students to design and build a model water tower with specific size and height requirements. The models are judged based on five categories including cost efficiency, hydraulic efficiency, structural efficiency, design ingenuity and interview presentation.
Members of our Westmont Public Works Department and Illinois Section AWWA will be able to provide support to the two person teams at the competition. Ramsey expects there to be about 70 teams competing.
Ramsey is the Chair for the Model Water Tower Competition: Illinois Section American Water Works Association. Ramsey invented Hydrant Hysteria in 2011. Hydrant Hysteria is a competition where a two-person team assembles a fire hydrant as fast as possible. Hydrant Hysteria has become a must have at the annual American Water Works Association Annual Conferences. This year the conference will be held in June in Philadelphia.
