[ARCHIVED] 2017 Adopt-A-Hydrant Program

The Village of Westmont Fire Department, Public Works Department, and Westmont First Committee will be working together to continue the Westmont Adopt-A-Hydrant Program. The goals of the program are:

SAFETY - Help the Fire Dept. by keeping hydrants snow-free during the winter and installing year-round safety flags!

AESTHETICS - Work with the Village to keep hydrants clean and freshly painted!

PRIDE - Be part of the Westmont Neighborhood Pride Program by getting involved in your community!

CREATIVITY & PRIZES - Sign up and be part of our Adopt-A-Hydrant contest for a chance to win prizes!

Westmont has over 1000 hydrants in the community. The Adopt-A-Hydrant Program helps the Fire Department and community safety in regard to making sure hydrants are visible and snow-free during the winter. This program allows citizens an opportunity to step forward and assist our community safety effort. Residents and businesses can get involved in a variety of ways:

COMMUNITY SAFETY ADOPTION - No Charge
* Agree to keep your adopted hydrant snow-free during the winter and overgrowth-free during the summer

COMMUNITY SAFETY ADOPTION PLUS SAFETY FLAG - $10
* Agree to keep your hydrant snow-free during the winter and overgrowth-free during the summer
* Sponsor a safety flag for your adopted hydrant - to be installed by Public Works

NEIGHBORHOOD PRIDE ADOPTION - $50
* Agree to design artwork and paint your adopted hydrant - design must be approved by the Village - up to (7) colors can be used
* Agree to keep your hydrant snow-free during the winter and overgrowth-free during the summer
* Sponsor a safety flag for your adopted hydrant - to be installed by Public Works

CORPORATE LEVEL ADOPTION - $75 or more
* Agree to sponsor the adoption of a hydrant in the community
* Agree to work with a local school or organization regarding the artwork for the hydrant and coordinating maintenance during the winter to keep the hydrant snow-free as well as overgrowth-free during the summer
* Sponsor a safety flag for your adopted hydrant - to be installed by Public Works

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
* All hydrant adoptions are good for (3) years - hydrants can be re-adopted every three years providing there has been annual maintenance
* Participants asked to renew their adoption (including adoption fees) annually and help keep hydrants in good condition, touching up with paint as needed and free of snow in the Winter - Renewals based on following adoption expectation protocols
* Hydrant design parameters include: a) black can only be used to outline images, b) no gluing or attaching items to the hydrant, c) all hydrant designs must be approved by the Village of Westmont, d) all designs must have “safety yellow” significantly incorporated
* Release waivers must be signed by all participants
* Multiple hydrant adoptions are encouraged
* All hydrants are owned and operated by the Village of Westmont

CONTEST AWARDS
All Neighborhood Pride and Corporate Level Adoptions will be automatically entered in our Adopt-A-Hydrant contest. Contestants will be judged on creativity, theme, artistic expression, etc.

First Place - $100 in area business gift certificates

Second Place - $50 in area business gift certificates

Third Place - $25 in area business gift certificates

You can sign up today online to fill out your adoption paperwork and prepare for your commitment to keeping your hydrant snow-free during the upcoming winter. Hydrant painting can be completed at your earliest convenience depending on availability of materials and good weather.
