[ARCHIVED] Mosquito Spraying Scheduled August 31

Village of Westmont

Date Issued: August 31, 2017

The Village of Westmont contracts with Clarke Mosquito Management to help control mosquito populations. At various times throughout the year, there will be various treatments applied throughout our community.  Now is peak West Nile Virus season and there have been confirmed WNV collection reports in the area.

On occasion, Clarke will perform after-hour spraying throughout the community to provide control for adult mosquito populations. The product used for this application is OMRI-listed and approved for use in residential areas. The treatment is applied by a truck and is performed between dusk and dawn, when adult mosquitoes are most active.   The next mosquito spraying treatment will occur throughout the community after dusk on Thursday, August 31.

Residents may sign up to receive advance notice alerts regarding when this occurs. To get up to date information and/or sign up for alert notices, please call the Clarke Mosquito Hotline at 1-800-942-2555.  For additional information, please visit their website -

As mosquitoes become more of a nuisance over the summer and fall, citizens can follow these steps:

When outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, use mosquito repellent on skin that is not covered by clothing.

Mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk - try to limit outdoor activities that these times. If you are outside, cover up as much skin as possible. It’s also recommended to wear light colored long-sleeved shirts, pants, shoes and socks.

Eliminate mosquito breeding sites, such as leaking hoses, standing water in tires, plastic containers, watering bowls for pets, and other solid surfaces that hold water, by removing standing water.

Make sure doors and windows have tight fitting screens by repairing or replacing screens that have holes or tears.

For more information, to report potential mosquito breeding sites, or to sign up to receive mosquito spraying notifications, please contact Clarke Mosquito at 1-800-942-2555.
