The Westmont Fire Department will host an Open House on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Johanik Fire Dept. Headquarters, 6015 S. Cass Ave. The department has several fun and educational activities planned for the public. Activities include equipment demonstrations, EMA displays, the Fire Dept. Bounce House and more. Freddy the Fire Truck and Sparky the Fire Dog will also be present to meet and greet visitors.
On Friday, October 13, 2017, the Fire Department will participate in the Annual Silent Parade. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. from Garfield Street and Chicago Avenue in Hinsdale and proceed west on Chicago Avenue/Naperville Road through Clarendon Hills, Westmont, Downers Grove and then ending in Lisle. The parade, which features fire department vehicles from surrounding communities, pays tribute to all those who have lost their lives to fire tragedy.
