Date Issued: February 23, 2018
On the heels of the recent school shooting incident in Florida comes a heightened sensitivity regarding student safety at school. Following these types of incidents come concerns of copycat crimes as well as hoaxes. At all times, the Westmont Police Department encourages residents to be alert in reporting crime and suspicious behavior.
“A common mantra of law enforcement is ‘SEE IT - REPORT IT’,” said Westmont School Resource Officer Nick Glynn. “We ask our students, staff, families, and the entire community to report all suspicious activity and possible threats. When in doubt, contact the Police Department. At the same time, we ask citizens to not post and repost misinformation on social media. It is important to make sure that only accurate information from credible sources is published, especially as it relates to community safety. If you want accurate information regarding law enforcement, we ask you to seek information directly from our Village of Westmont website and our official Village of Westmont social media. If you have further questions or concerns, then do not hesitate - please contact the Police Department.”
