[ARCHIVED] Tree Watering Tips

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: April 19, 2018

Trees are assets to our community when properly planted and maintained.  They help to keep us cooler, make our communities healthier, increase property values, manage stormwater and clean the air we breathe.  To help residents care for their new and mature trees, the Village of Westmont Environmental Improvement Committee has put together a tree watering guide that is now available on the village website.  To view the guide, visit the Village of Westmont Green Page at and scroll to the bottom or CLICK HERE.

Since trees are so valuable to the community, Westmont offers two tree programs for residents that promote planting with locally acclimated, long-lived, diverse tree species to increase the health and vitality of our urban forest.

To celebrate Arbor Day, the Westmont Environmental Improvement Commission (EIC) is coordinating its annual tree seedling giveaway.  On Friday, April 27, Village Forester Jon Yeater and EIC volunteers will be at the Westmont Library to hand out tree seedlings to Westmont residents. For more details on available seedlings and to sign-up, visit

The Parkway Tree Planting Program is a voluntary, cost sharing program allowing any Westmont property owner to replace public parkway trees by ordering through the Village. The purchase, site preparation, and planting of the trees is performed by the Public Works Department. The average cost of nursery materials is paid by the property owner. For more information on the Parkway Tree Planting Program, visit
