The Village of Westmont recently made significant updates to the Stormwater Management page on the Village Website. Additionally, a user-friendly URL was created for the webpage - westmont.illinois.gov/stormwater. “This is all part of our ongoing effort to make stormwater management improvements in the community and then report this information to the public,” said Public Works Director Mike Ramsey.
The Stormwater page highlights information regarding the Village’s compliance with EPA requirements, upcoming infrastructure projects relating to stormwater management, flooding information, and more.
The Village of Westmont owns and maintains a public storm sewer system, which serves the majority of the community by capturing rainwater and water runoff. To help ensure that pollution is prevented from entering the storm sewer system, the Village is required to develop a stormwater management plan. In addition, the Village must follow the EPA’s stormwater requirements as outlined in the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Program (NPDES).
The Village of Westmont’s stormwater management plan covers a broad spectrum of best management practices including street sweeping, storm sewer cleaning, and recycling, as well as public education. The Plan can be found on the Village website at westmont.illinois.gov/stormwater. The site also includes the Village’s NPDES permits, flood information, and stormwater management tips for residents.
Each year, the Village undertakes many infrastructure projects to maintain and improve the storm sewer system. Following are just some of the projects that are scheduled to begin in 2018.
- Central Business District Pervious Alley Improvements - between Irving and Norfolk, east of Cass
- Complete Engineering Design for the 400 block of North Warwick Stormwater Management Project - construction expected to begin Summer 2018
- Complete Engineering Design of the Fire Department Headquarters Regional Stormwater Detention Project - construction expected to begin mid to late 2018
- Commence Engineering Design on the Burlington/West End/Cumnor/Roslyn Storm Sewer Project - construction expected to begin in late 2018
