In preparation for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Chicago Prostate Cancer Center, located in Westmont, Illinois, was chosen as the location for a special video production showcasing LDR Brachytherapy (Seed Implant) treatment for prostate cancer. The video sponsored by the American Brachytherapy Therapy Society, is being filmed on Wednesday, August 15, and features three of the leading authorities in the world regarding prostate cancer treatment: Peter Orio, DO, MS from Harvard; Brian J. Moran MD from Chicago Prostate Cancer Center; and Daniel Petereit, MD from Rapid City, SD. All three of these physicians are radiation oncology experts in field of prostate brachytherapy. This video production will air on public TV in 50 states and through internet distribution on websites and social media sites.
“We are fortunate to have such a high-profile, cutting-edge medical facility in our community,” said Westmont Economic Development Director Larry Forssberg. “The reputation of the Chicago Prostate Cancer Center is world-renown.”
The video will showcase the advantages and ease of seed implants as a highly curable treatment for prostate cancer. The innovative therapy performed by Dr. Moran precisely places radioactive isotopes directly into, or near, the cancerous tumor in the prostate. This one time, out-patient procedure yields high cure rates, at low costs, while avoiding quality of life concerns. Through collaborative research with Prostate Cancer Foundation of Chicago, seed implants continue to innovate with new techniques such as targeted and focal therapy.
“It’s an honor to have these internationally respected doctors be on location at Chicago Prostate Center to be part of this informational video production,” said Jennifer White, Administrative Director. “While prostate cancer is a very treatable disease, early diagnosis and treatment is the key. The treatment highlighted in this video offers excellent cure rates, low cost, and have excellent quality of life outcomes.”
Chicago Prostate Cancer Center is located in Westmont and works hand-in-hand with not-for-profit, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Chicago, to help advance clinical research, provide prostate cancer education and support, and free cancer screenings.
