Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: October 29, 2018
The Westmont Police Department has had a busy month of community events in October. Partnering with local businesses Docu-Shred and Mariano’s, the Police Department hosted a paper-shredding and light bulb recycling fundraiser on October 20, and a drug takeback program on October 27.
“A lot of people came out for both events,” said Deputy Chief Brian Gruen. “We were happy to add the light bulb recycling to the paper shredding event. We are looking to possibly add even more recycling events to next year’s schedule.”
A total of 251 pounds of prescription drugs was collected during the drug take back event, which was coordinated in conjunction with a national effort sponsored by the DEA. All unwanted and old prescription drugs collected will be disposed safely. This program helps to prevent the possibly improper disposal of drugs, thus preventing them from contaminating the water supply.
The paper shredding and bulb recycling event was a fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois. A total of $2,137.00 was raised in donations. The only charitable cause that the Westmont Police Department does fundraisers for is Special Olympics Illinois. So far, the Westmont Police Department has raised a total of $14,557.00 in 2018.
