[ARCHIVED] Charges Filed in Fire at Taco Express Location

An individual was charged with two counts of aggravated arson, a class X felony, and one count of residential arson, a class one (1) felony for offenses that occurred on December 7, 2018. Additionally, State’s Attorney Bob Berlin’s office made a motion in DuPage court to direct the individual to be examined by a psychologist.
At 11:39 a.m. on December 7, a fire was reported in the building where Taco Express restaurant is located, 7 W. Quincy Street. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 11:41 a.m. to witness heavy fire and smoke. The situation was upgraded to a box alarm fire. It appears the fire began in a second floor residential unit. Multiple fire departments from 15 communities responded to the fire. The fire was under control at 12:05 p.m.
The fire was investigated by the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force including fire department investigators, police investigators, ATF, and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. No further information is available at this time.
