The Westmont Sentinels Boy's Basketball team is having their best season in years with a 17-2 overall record halfway through the season, but they are also planning a successful off-the-court season as well.
“I am a big believer in getting the team involved within the school and community,” said head coach Craig Etheridge. The team is planning to give back to the community by participating in a Coaches vs Cancer basketball game, which will be a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. “The current basketball players will be giving back by being referees, keeping score, and running the gate to collect donations at the game,” Etheridge continued.
Several members of the team are involved with the community in other ways as well. Seniors Matt O’Leary, Caden Anderson, and Michael Thompson are part of the National Honor Society and spend time volunteering throughout the year at events such as the Westmont Park District’s Halloween Haunted Trails. They also volunteer as greeters and ushers for school events including graduation, concerts, and the Mr. Sentinel Talent Show. Team members Anderson, O’Leary, Troy Schlicher, and Alex Pietrzak have all volunteered time working the youth basketball camps at the Park District during the summer the past three years.
The Village of Westmont wishes the Sentinel Boys Basketball Team the best of luck for the rest of their season and thanks them for their commitment to serving the community.
