Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: February 28, 2019
“This is our third year coordinating this event and the momentum is really beginning to build,” said Westmont Public Works Director Mike Ramsey. “We will have two regional events this year leading up to the State Championship. This is a great way to promote the importance of our water distribution systems as well as introduce young people to the possibility of a career as a water works professional.”
At the Westmont area regional model water tower event on Saturday, February 23, more than 20 teams comprised of over 40 students from throughout the area participated. The top three finishers were all from Westmont.
Jose Velez Hernandez, pictured, from Westview Hills Middle School took first place. Second place went to Hemza Bedeir from Westmont Jr. High School. Westview Hills Middle School’s Oliver Stehik took third place. All 3 of the top finishers will move on to the State Competition later this year.
The Village of Westmont congratulates all of the participants involved in the contest. The next regional event will be Saturday, March 2 in Glen Ellyn.
