This Spring, residents will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, literally, and assist with two different initiatives that will help our local environment. “This is a great chance for our citizens to get involved and make a positive difference that benefits our local ecology,” said Bruce Barker, chair of the Environmental Improvement Commission.
STORM DRAIN STENCILING PROJECT
Saturday, June 1 - 9 a.m. to Noon
The Storm Drain Stenciling Project consists of volunteers working together to spray paint a stencil around stormwater drains so that people know not to put dangerous materials into the storm drain. All supplies will be provided.

DUPAGE RIVER SWEEP PROGRAM
Saturday, May 18 - 9 a.m. to Noon
Over 20 other communities throughout the County, including the Village of Westmont, are coming together to participate in this year’s DuPage River Sweep Program on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Restoration will be the main focus of this year’s event with a special interest in the removal of invasive species in the area. With the help of the Westmont volunteers over the years, thousands of pounds of garbage have been cleared out of the St. Joseph’s Creek, and many invasive species have been removed, creating a healthier environment for its inhabitants. The River Sweep program, organized by The Conservation Foundation, is dedicated to preserving open space and natural lands, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of the environment in northeast Illinois.
