Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: March 29, 2019
On March 21, U.S. Representative Sean Casten visited the Muddy Waters exhibit located in the Westmont Special Events office in Westmont Centre, 1 S. Cass Avenue. Casten was in Westmont on business and decided to visit the exhibit before leaving back to his office. Casten is a huge blues fan as well as a part-time musician.
“Westmont’s connection to Muddy Waters and the blues is definitely one of the coolest things we have in DuPage County,” said Casten, who represents Illinois' 6th Congressional District. The district encompasses various parts of several counties including Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane, and McHenry. During his visit, Rep. Casten signed the Muddy Waters exhibit guest book, “All praise to the hands-down coolest person to ever hail from Illinois’ 6th Congressional District. Keeping your mojo alive in Washington DC! Sean Casten Congressman, IL-06.”
“It’s always exciting to have people visit the exhibit who really appreciate and understand the impact that Muddy Waters had in American Music History,” said Larry McIntyre, coordinator of the exhibit. “Representative Casten let us know that he has the opportunity to borrow items from the U.S. Library of Congress, so we will be working with his office to see if we can obtain any items on loan related to Muddy Waters to add to our collection.”
The Muddy Waters exhibit in Westmont includes over 40 one-of-a-kind blues artifacts including rare photos, original posters and publicity handbills, clothing, tour memorabilia, and more. The featured artifact of the exhibit is a Grammy Award that Waters won in 1972.
